The Bailey panel is typically constituted by welding the upper and lower chords, vertical rods, and diagonal rods. There are both male and female joints above the upper and lower chord rods, and pestle rack connection pin holes on the joints. The chord of the Bailey panel is composed of two No. 10 channel steels. In the lower chord, several steel plates with round holes are often welded. In the upper and lower chords, bolt holes are equipped to reinforce the chord and double truss connection. In the upper chord, there are four bolt holes connected to the support frame. The middle two holes are utilized for the connection of double or multiple rows of trusses with the same section, while the two holes at both ends are for inter-node connection. When multiple rows of Bailey panels are employed as beams or columns, it is necessary to reinforce the joints of the upper and lower Bailey panels with support frames.
On the lower chord, there are 4 cross beam backing plates, the upper part of which is provided with a tenon to fix the position of the cross beam on the plane, and two elliptical holes are provided on the channel steel web at the end of the lower chord rod for connecting sway brace. The vertical bar is made of 8# I-steel, and there is a square hole on the side of the lower chord of the vertical bar, which is used for the beam fixture to fix the beam. The material of the Beret sheet is 16Mn, and each frame weighs 270kg.
1. Check whether the bridge panel is damaged, defective or deformed, and replace it when necessary.
2. Observe whether the various dowels, bolts, beam fixtures and sway brace of the Bailey panels are assembled properly, whether there is artificial damage or loosening to ensure stable passage.
3. Check whether the bridge panel is cracked, deformed or uneven, and replace it when needed.
4. Measure the mid-span deflection of the bridge to determine if it increases, and the rate of increase in deflection should be consistent with the wear of the pins and pin holes.
5. Check whether the foundation of the Beret steel bridge has uneven settlement, and adjust it promptly if discovered.
6. Apply grease around the pins to prevent rain from entering the gap in the pin holes, and grease all the exposed threads of the bolts to prevent rust. Bailey bridge are widely utilized in traffic engineering. The Bailey panel features a simple structure, convenient transportation, large load capacity, excellent interchangeability and strong adaptability.
7. During the maintenance, the engineer should meticulously check various components of the steel bridge to ensure there is no paint peeling, rust or deformation in each part. For the rusty parts, workers are strictly required to clean up the dust, oil, rust and various dirty substances first, and then spray paint evenly and smoothly. If any parts are found to be deformed, they should be replaced to sustain the stable use of the steel bridge.
