What are the common methods of steel structure processing

The common methods of steel structure processing are as follows:

1. Cutting

  • Flame cutting: Uses a high-temperature flame to cut through steel plates. It is suitable for thick steel plates and can handle large-scale cutting tasks.
  • Plasma cutting: Utilizes a high-velocity plasma arc to cut steel. It is precise and can cut complex shapes.
  • Laser cutting: Offers extremely high precision and can cut intricate designs. It is often used for thinner steel sheets and requires advanced equipment.

2. Welding

  • Arc welding: This is a common welding method where an electric arc is created between an electrode and the steel to fuse the metal. It includes processes like shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW).
  • Submerged arc welding: Used for large-scale welding operations, it provides high productivity and good weld quality.

3. Bending

  • Press braking: A mechanical process where a steel plate is bent between a punch and a die to achieve the desired shape.
  • Roll bending: Steel is passed through a series of rollers to gradually bend it into a curved shape.

4. Drilling and punching

  • Drilling: Creates holes in steel components using drills. It can be done manually or with automated drilling machines for high precision.
  • Punching: Uses a punch and die set to quickly create holes in steel sheets.

5. Assembly

  • Bolted connections: Steel components are joined together using bolts and nuts. This method allows for easy disassembly and reassembly if needed.
  • Welded connections: As mentioned earlier, welding is used to permanently join steel parts. This provides a strong and rigid connection.

6. Surface treatment

  • Painting: Applying protective paint coatings to prevent corrosion and enhance the appearance of the steel structure.
  • Galvanizing: Coating steel with a layer of zinc to protect it from rust.
  • Shot blasting: Used to clean the surface of steel by propelling abrasive materials at high speed to remove rust, scale, and other contaminants.
